Project Description

High Sign is an application that allows you to easily create and map custom gestures to perform common actions on their Windows PC. Unlike some other mouse gesture recognition software, you are not limited to a set of predefined gestures; you are free to create any gesture you can think up. The original idea for High Sign was to be a complete StrokeIt alternative, but since High Sign's birth, the vision has changed dramatically for it to become so much more. The gesture recognition engine was written from scratch and designed to focus on maximum recognition accuracy with a minimum sample set (typically one (1) sample is all that's required to reliably identify a gesture).

Update (Monday, February 23rd, 2009): Second alpha preview has been released. Please visit the release page to download it. As always, feedback is encouraged.

Update (Friday, February 13th, 2009): A new alpha preview will be released in a few days that includes fixes listed in the Issue Tracker, as well as feature requests from user discussions. Also, there are various other fixes and changes made to the code base.

It's that simple to setup an action that's ready to rock as soon as you step out of training mode.

Project Description

High Sign is an application that allows users to easily create and map custom gestures to perform common actions on their Windows PC. Unlike some other mouse gesture recognition software, the user is not limited to a set of predefined gestures. They are free to create any gesture they can think up. The gesture recognition engine was written from scratch and was designed to focus on maximum recognition accuracy with a minimum sample set (typically one (1) sample is all that's required to reliably identify a gesture).

The gesture recognition engine was written from scratch and was designed to focus on maximum recognition accuracy with a minimum sample set (typically one (1) sample is all that's required to reliably identify a gesture).

Getting Started with High Sign

Installing High Sign

To install High Sign, open the HighSign.msi setup file and follow the onscreen instructions. Launch High Sign from the start menu.

Using High Sign

After starting High Sign from the start menu a new icon (Mouse) will be added to your notification area in your task bar. The first time you run High Sign the application will be in training mode. The software comes pre-configured with some basic gestures and action which you can view by right-clicking on the mouse icon in the notification area and selecting "Available Actions" or "Available Gestures". To start using High Sign immediately, right click the mouse icon in the notification area and uncheck "Training Mode". To activate a gesture simply right click and hold, then draw one of the pre-configured gestures. When you're done drawing release the right mouse button to activate the action associated with the gesture. Actions are either tied to "All Applications" or to a single application.

Configuring a New Gesture

Make sure High Sign is in training mode by right-clicking the mouse icon in the notification area in your task bar. Next, draw a gesture on the application you'd like to control or for a global gesture, draw a gesture on any application. Use the same procedure in the "Using" section above to draw a gesture. After you've drawn your gesture, a dialog box with pop-up to confirm what gesture you drew (if it already exists), or allow you to add new gesture by selecting "-- New Gesture --" from the drop down list. To create a new gesture, type in the name of the gesture in text box show after selecting "-- New Gesture --". When you're finished, click next.

The next dialog box will confirm what application you'd like to control. You can select "-- New Application --", "All Application", or a pre-configured application. If you select "-- New Application --", you'll be shown a list of running applications from which you can select the application you'd like to control. Change the name of the new application by entering the desired application name in the "Name" textbox. There are three different way to match application instances, either by "Window Class Name", "Window Title", or "Executable Filename". It's recommended that you use "Window Class Name", but if for some reason it doesn't match all running instances of the application you can try the other options to obtain a consistent match. When you're finished, click next.

The next dialog box will confirm what action you'd like to perform when the gesture is recognized. Actions are plugin based and could vary depending on your configuration. Select an action by selecting it from the drop down list. You may or may not be presented with additional configuration options if the plugin allows it. When you're finished, click done.

That's it! Your action is all ready to use. You can verify your action by right click the mouse icon in the notification area of your task bar and selecting "Available Actions". To use your action, read the "Using" section above.

Final Note

High Sign is still in development and these instructions are still very preliminary and are subject to change. I invite your feedback on your entire interaction with High Sign, including installation. It's my goal to make High Sign as easy to use as possible and your feedback and requests will be heard and taken to heart when developing future versions.

Thanks for your interest in High Sign!
It's my goal to make High Sign as easy to use as possible and your feedback and requests will be heard and taken to heart when developing future versions.

Thanks for your interest in High Sign!

You can create an action simply by drawing a gesture on the application you'd like to control (in training mode), and High Sign will ask you a few simple questions.

What did you draw?

What application do you want to control?

What action do you want to perform?

It's that simple to setup an action that's ready to rock as soon as you step out of training mode.
